Pacific North-West Madrone Lumber
Above is a picture of a stack of Pacific Marone Lumber. I have often written about it - it is such a beautiful wood.
One of the exciting design ideas to explore is wood matching. The Hardwood Buffet Sideboard shown in the thumbnail below has purple heart and madrone in combination.
The two colors go beautifully together but the wood textures are entirely different. The purple heart is open-grained much like oak while the madrone is very dense and smooth.
The two different grain textures might be a problem unless the woods are used intentionally enhancing the piece with their different grains.
For example I once made a coffee table with four drawers using open grain for the drawer faces and table edge and smooth for the rest of the piece.
In the case of the curved front Buffet Sideboard shown below, I filled the grain to simulate the texture of the madrone
